£10,000 rowing challenge
Greg Morrall, Guy Masters, Peter Rees, and Will Copley decided to take on the challenge to row for 24 hours and to cover 354km each (this is a distance longer than two marathons or from Birmingham to London and back). Each rowed for a minimum of 6 hours in shifts and slept (well tried to) in the gym between shifts. Having never rowed more than 40km in a day it was going to be quite a challenge! This monumental challenge was organised to support 2 charities close to the hearts of the rowers:
- My Name'5 Doddie Foundation - firstly, to raise funds for research into the causes of motor neuron disease and investigate potential cures, and, secondly, to make grants to sufferers of MND and enable them to live as fulfilled a life as possible - https://www.myname5doddie.co.uk/
and
- Edwards Trust - Edward’s Trust offers a holistic approach to supporting people through bereavement and loss (counselling, support groups, play therapy, well-being therapy, and social events and also resources and training for those supporting people in their grief journey - https://edwardstrust.org.uk/
"We’re all reasonably fit and we trained for this, but nothing prepares you for the sheer time and distance you have to cover, and the total lack of sleep. Ultimately willpower won the day", as a result of which, the team managed to raise over £10,000 including gift aid.
